Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to monitor control processes
   • Access, interpret and apply monitor control processes documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment and protective clothing
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
   • Select monitoring equipment and check for faults
   • Identify and locate all equipment and services under monitoring control
2. Monitor and control operations
   • Monitor mine processes and identify equipment availability, service availability for continuity of production
   • Report faults within processes, equipment or services, to the appropriate authority for remedial action
   • Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
   • Provide status reports to those who are or may be affected by the faults or disruption to production
   • Monitor and report remedial actions and the effects on production
3. Record operational information
   • Provide handover reports
   • Process records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of monitoring control processes including:

starting, operating and closing down monitoring equipment

reading, interpreting, applying and communicating technical/operational monitoring information and reports

communicate effectively on monitoring information

maintaining records

works effectively with others to undertake and complete monitoring of control processes in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

resolving coordination requirements throughout work activities

demonstrates completion of monitoring control processes that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying equipment availability, service availability and continuity of production, and

reporting faults within processes, to equipment or services, to the appropriate authority for remedial action

confirming work requirements details such as;

standard operating procedures

status reports

notice of known or anticipated changes

specific responsibilities for the shift

coordination requirements/issues
